Cornell University, located in Ithaca, New York, is one of the six prestigious Ivy League schools in the United States and is considered by many as the premier hospitality school in the United States. In 2007, Newsweek ranked the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration as the best in the world.

While at Cornell, Rich Hanks was a lecturer and adjunct professor. Hanks was also on the Board of the Cornell Center for Hospitality Research for 10 years.
